 What is micro:bit Tinkering?

The micro:bit is a project by the BBC to bring computer science education and STEM topics students in the United Kingdom. It is a pocket-sized computer that is programmable with both drag-and-drop and text-based code. The micro:bit Tinkering module set leads students to tinker with projects with a mix of electrical and hardware components, while learning to code. Students will build, customize and code the micro:bit in assorted projects, including creating musical devices, games, robots, smart devices, motorized vehicles and more.

 What do students gain?

Learning to Code

Students learn coding fundamentals and observe how code is used in programming the micro:bit as well as define the behaviour of their integrated creation.

Tinkering with hardware

Pull components apart and put them together. Mish and mash into something else. This is tinkering, a natural way to learn how things work and fuel curiosity. In micro:bit Tinkering, students develop fine motor skills, expand problem solving abilities, enhance relationships and collaboration with peers, and build confidence and their sense of discovery.

Understanding hardware components

Sensors, LEDs, accelerometer, buzzers, connection pins, jumper wires and more. Students discover the function os each electrical component and how to integrate them in their micro:bit projects.
